Hockey Photo: One Layer at a Time.

Sometimes locations are not exactly what you’d like them to be. Here’s a layer by layer screen grab of what I’ve done to this image.

I’m a big advocate for getting it right in camera, but it’s also a good idea to recognize when it’s time to fight for it or move on. Below wasn’t the best executed shot from all the other photos, BUT what I like about it is the position of the eyes in relation to the face mask. I also like the body position of the goalie.

Below is the image after a few adjustments in Camera Raw.

After the adjustment the mask was too dark so I’ve increased the brightness isolated on the mask only.

The shot below is where I’ve added a line on the ice to have symmetry either side of goal.

Below is an added warming photo filter and I’ve taken the company logo and added it to the uniform.

I started removing the logos from all the gear.

The image left me wanting more in the black spaces. So I’ve added a score board.

Score boards glow so I’ve added a bit of glow coming from it.

A few lens flares from my light camera left and also from the score board.

A reflection of the score board off the ice was added to help sell the realism.

A new Camera Raw layer was created and color adjusted. I’ve also dropped in the company logo.

Just below the logo layer I’ve added a field blur to blur out the score board a bit and simulate depth of field.

So there ya go. Naturalist will hate it, but I love it.

Olympus Mons (Latin for Mount Olympus) is a large shield volcano on the planet Mars. By one measure, it has a height of nearly 22 km (14 mi).[3] This makes it the tallest mountain on any planet in the Solar System (and, after the 2011 discovery of Rheasilvia Mons on 4 Vesta, the second largest mountain on any world known). It stands almost three times as tall as Mount Everest’s height above sea level. Olympus Mons is the youngest of the large volcanoes on Mars, having formed during Mars’s Amazonian Period. Olympus Mons had been known to astronomers since the late 19th century as the albedo feature Nix Olympica (Latin for “Olympic Snow”). Its mountainous nature was suspected well before space probes confirmed its identity as a mountain.
